Primary Purpose

The Educational Diagnostician assesses the educational, learning styles, and program needs of students referred for special education services. This position works collaboratively with instructional staff, families, and campus administrators to ensure students with disabilities receive appropriate, high-quality instructional programs aligned with federal and state regulations.

 

Qualifications

 

Education & Certification

• Master’s degree in Educational Assessment
• Valid Texas Teaching Certificate
• Valid Texas Educational Diagnostician Certificate

Experience

• Minimum of three (3) years of classroom teaching experience
• Previous experience as an Educational Diagnostician

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Knowledge of evaluation procedures (achievement, intellectual, emotional, and behavioral)
• Knowledge of diagnostic procedures and assessment practices
• Strong understanding of special education law, human development, and learning theories
• Ability to analyze, interpret, and clearly communicate assessment data
• Excellent organizational, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Assessment

• Select, administer, and interpret formal and informal assessments to determine eligibility for special education services in accordance with federal law and Texas Education Agency (TEA) regulations.
• Compile and evaluate comprehensive student data, including classroom observations, interviews with students, teachers, and parents, and review of cumulative records.
• Consult with parents and teachers regarding assessment results and educational implications.
• Participate as a member of the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with data interpretation, placement decisions, and development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Consultation

• Provide staff development and training to campus personnel related to identifying and supporting students with disabilities.
• Support classroom teachers with the implementation of IEP goals and accommodations.

Program Management

• Assist in the selection of assessment tools, materials, and equipment.
• Participate in ongoing evaluation and improvement of the district assessment program.
• Prepare, maintain, and file required reports, records, and documentation in compliance with district, state, and federal requirements.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and district policies.

Other Duties

• Follow all district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Special Education Department.

• Districtwide travel may be required
• May require prolonged or irregular hours
